Joffrey B. Degueurce
Specialist in cycling posture study | Cyclist | Philosopher

Joffrey has been cycling competitively for twenty-four years. When he began experiencing comfort issues on his bike at the age of fifteen, he searched diligently for solutions, but no one in his area seemed able to adequately help him—at least not with the rigor he sought. He also investigated elsewhere, but he was unable to find the answers he craved. Thus began his journey into the world of cycling posture study.

At the same time, he realized he was in a similar situation when it came to training. He found mostly generic answers—few considered the person as a whole. He knew he had to go out and encounter something deeper. So he began to train himself.

All this research led him to the discovery of philosophy, which allowed him to refine his unique method of cycling positioning and training. In a nod to one of the philosophers who most influenced him, Socrates, he states that: "The unexamined practice of cycling is not worth doing."

Deeply Aristotelian-Thomist, he considers himself a philosopher who seeks the adequacy of the intellect with reality—and not the other way around. With him, you will examine cycling as a part of the whole that is life—you will see the "little queen" with new eyes. He will evaluate your posture on and off the bike so that you become one with this efficient machine and avoid the discomforts that kill your pleasure.

Towards a harmonious position for increased pleasure and optimal performance

Bike fitting is all about optimizing the connection between you and your bike—so the machine submits to the human, not the other way around. Therefore, we achieve the best results by considering the various variables of both the rider and their bike. Joffrey goes beyond a standard biomechanical analysis, considering your entire being—body, mind, and spirit—to deliver a fully individualized fit and experience. This way, you can focus on enjoying every pedal stroke and say goodbye to discomfort pulling you from contemplating the pedals.

The three main benefits of an adjustment with Joffrey

1. Comfort

Begin your journey to a more orderly cycling experience by properly fitting your bike. By becoming one with your bike, you'll lay the right foundation for an optimal cycling experience. Without this optimization, discomfort and inefficiency could distract you from the charm of cycling. Cycling is a sumptuous sport, so it would be a shame to see people putting their bikes down for comfort. Long-term health should also be prioritized; thus, good posture by distributing loads evenly across the body's various structures will naturally prevent injuries.

2. Efficiency

Anyone who has ever attempted to pursue a cycling goal knows how extreme the sport requires in terms of training and lifestyle. For this reason, it would be detrimental to let a suboptimal posture hinder your results. The difference is most noticeable in the ability to maintain submaximal efforts, although certain changes can help with absolute power transmission.

3. Aerodynamics

A position adapted to a person's unique physiology helps improve aerodynamic efficiency. Indeed, on a bicycle, wind resistance is the major force acting against the cyclist. Above 30 km/h, it corresponds to 90 % of the effort. Although we do not have a means of precisely quantifying differences in aerodynamic drag in our cycling fitting laboratory, a proper position will allow the cyclist to "contort" with greater ease, thus reducing their drag.
